Through his sacrifice on the cross, Christ has made a way for all who put their trust and faith in Him to be called children of God. We are a "new creation" (2 Corinthians 5:17), “buried with Christ in baptism, and raised to walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). Yet despite the truth of our identity found in Christ, the enemy still attempts to use shame and fear to distort and twist the identity God has given us.In 2 Timothy 1:1-12, Paul gives Timothy – and us– three tools to help us silence the lies of the enemy: power, love, and self-discipline (or a sound mind). These are not of our own origin, strength, or determination, but gifts given to us through Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we use these tools, we can respond in thankfulness for Christ's sacrifice on the cross and learn to live more fully in our identity found only in Him!
