The lowly shepherds were chosen by God to be the first recipients of the heavenly announcement of Jesus’ birth. The angel declared to them that he came to bringing Good News of great joy to all people including the shepherds. In that very moment the angel was joined by a multitude of heavenly host who gave praise to God and spoke peace over the earth and mankind. Do we still perceive and receive the Gospel message of who Jesus is and what he has done for us as Good News. Are we like shepherds who hurried to find this baby who born? Are we like Mary who pushed through her fear of being pageant but not yet married? Do we declare like she did when she visited her cousin Elisabeth… “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.”
