Declaration of Dependence
July 4, 2021 |
John 8:31-49
We cannot know true freedom independent from God. We will only know true freedom in dependence upon God. On the 4th of July, Americans especially remember the claims of our Declaration of Independence which state how all people are granted “unalienable rights by our Creator,” such as, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Yet, how is it we human beings seem to forfeit these rights so easily from a spiritual perspective? When we pursue what we perceive to be freedom independent from God and God’s Word, spiritual freedom will only evade us. It is only in dependence upon God, experienced as we continually abide in Christ and His Word, that we may experience the eternal life and true freedom God alone can give.
