The first two commandments instruct God’s people to put no one and nothing else before the Lord in our lives. Throughout scripture, God will call His people to remember this so frequently because we can forget so easily. And when we forget who God is and what God has done for us, we will inevitably forget who we are and why He has saved us. Idolatry will always lead to bondage and death. But when Christ truly reigns in our hearts and lives, we can know the freedom He brings and the life only He can give.
