The ninth commandment calls God’s people to be a community committed to truth. More specifically, we are called to tell the truth to and about one another, because truthfulness is essential to practicing and preserving justice. When we bear false witness against our neighbor, we not only damage their reputation and well-being; we also undermine the trust that justice requires within a community.
